Checkpoints, Objectives, Particles, and the Roadmap
What have I been up to?
I can only apologize for the relative quiet in the course over the last month, I needed some time to recover from burnout and after spending some time developing some skills I am back in the saddle!
I’ve spent some critical time developing my blender skills so I can produce more content for the course and better round out my teaching, thanks to that my next video is going to be all about making stylized 3D grass in Godot from the ground up!
The Official Roadmap
One of the most frequent questions I would receive was about the specifics of what is in the written course, so I have updated the roadmap so its easily visible what chapters are present and what is under construction.
And as you can see from this iteration, we have two new sections in the making a 3D platformer chapter!
Checkpoints, Objectives, and Particles
Rounding out the functionality of the Making a 3D Platformer chapter are two new topics, these will teach you how to create checkpoints where the player can respawn when they fall off the map, and objectives that when reached transition the player into following levels.
The particles chapter will run you through getting started with particles in Godot, making dust clouds when the player runs, as well as bursts of particles when checkpoints are reached.
What is next?
The last topic for Making a 3D Platformer covers adding sound into your games, I am having a small pack of sound files produced to make this process as seamless as possible.
Following that I am going to be working on video content for the platformer side of the course, before getting back into the What's new in Godot 4 topic.
Additionally, I have some updates to the source code for the project in the works including a new scene for easing transitions between levels, as well as newly commissioned Card art in cards of Mallardy to look forwards to.
Thanks for reading and see you in the next one!
